Privacy Policy
This policy explains which personal data Loufoque collects, why, how long it is kept and what your rights are. It applies to the loufoque.app site and the associated mobile/web app.

2. Data collected
We only collect what is strictly necessary to make Loufoque work.
Without an account (trial)
- Anonymous device identifier (UUID) generated locally, stored in the browser.
- Your local progress: words seen, blocks completed, mnemonics written — everything stays on your device.
With an account
- Login email (required to create an account) + password hashed by Supabase Auth.
- Profile: optional public nickname, interface language, preferred audio mode.
- Progress: mastered words, completed blocks, streak, alphabet stage.
- Personal mnemonics: sentences you write to memorize a word.
- Generated images: illustrations of your mnemonics, created by AI at your request.
If you choose to share a card publicly
- Image + mnemonic sentence + word published on a publicly accessible page (loufoque.app/c/...).
- Nickname (if you are not in anonymous mode) or the label "Anonymous".
3. Purposes and legal basis
- Provide the learning service (sync your progress, display your mnemonics) — legal basis: performance of the contract (Terms).
- Secure your account (authentication, anti-spam) — legal basis: legitimate interest.
- Moderate public content (automatic analysis of shared images/text before publication) — legal basis: performance of the contract + legitimate interest in protecting users.
- Improve the product (aggregated statistics, no ad targeting) — legal basis: legitimate interest.
We do not use your data for targeted advertising. No reselling to third parties.
4. Recipients and processors
Loufoque relies on providers that process certain data on its behalf:
- Supabase (database hosting, authentication, storage of shared images). Region: United Kingdom (London), a country benefiting from an EU adequacy decision.
- Netlify (hosting of the site and server functions). Region: United States. Transfers covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
- OpenAI (image generation from your mnemonic sentence + automatic moderation of shared content). Region: United States. Transfers covered by the Standard Contractual Clauses. OpenAI commits to not using content sent via its API to train its models.
5. Retention period
- Active account: as long as you use the service.
- Deleted account: data is permanently erased within 30 days (immediate deletion on the Supabase side + purge of backups).
- Extended inactivity: if you don't log in for 3 years, we'll warn you before automatic deletion.
- Publicly shared cards: stay visible until you remove them (from your settings) or your account is deleted.
6. Security
- HTTPS connections everywhere (TLS).
- Passwords stored as hashes (never in plain text).
- Data access protected by Supabase Row Level Security (each user only sees their own data).
- Automatic moderation of any content made public.
7. Your rights (GDPR)
You have the following rights over your personal data:
- Access and portability: you can download a full copy of your data from your Profile menu → "Export my data".
- Rectification: edit your profile, your mnemonics, your nickname at any time.
- Deletion: permanently delete your account from your Profile menu → "Delete my account".
- Objection and restriction: you can write to us at contact@loufoque.app to exercise these rights.
- Withdrawal of consent: at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
- Complaint: to the CNIL (the French data protection authority).
8. Cookies and local storage
Loufoque does not use tracking or advertising cookies. The site only uses:
- The browser's local storage (localStorage) to keep your progress offline and your session signed in.
- An anonymous device identifier (local UUID) to attribute a card to its author anonymously.
9. Changes
This policy may change. The date at the top indicates the last update. If a significant change affects you, we'll notify you by email.
